‘Tis an exciting day indeed, as Rush is coming back to Colorado and I have tickets for the Red Rocks show on August 16th! Corny as it sounds, I’ve never really known life without Rush. They were making music before I was born (including their breakthrough album 2112 that was released in 1976, which was also a breakthrough year for me as well). And while they fell off the major music radar in the late 80’s they’ve consistently been putting out quality music up until the present day. Good guys, great music, good philosophies and staying true to themselves — try to find that in bands today.
More than that, so many songs trigger a flood of memories. Albums are the soundtracks to certain phases in my life. Seeing them live (this will be 10th time) is always a blast and tends to restore my love for music as a whole. I get worn out by the bland, predictable beat of commercial music and I’m not as savvy at finding new bands that catch my ear. So viva Rush, I hope this is not a farewell tour but if it is playing the entirety of Moving Pictures is a good way to go out!
In other news, today is my sister Amy’s birthday (yay!) so happy b-day to her and cheers to another fine trip around the sun!! My own birthday is but 24 hours away, on my to 34. I guess that officially makes me at the low end of my mid-30s, which is fine with me. Truthfully, I don’t feel all that much different than any other phase in my life physically, though I’d like to think I’ve gotten a touch wiser through the years. I’ll wait until I’m a real adult before I start to feel old!
